The phrase “it takes a village…” is widely known and used and no matter which candidates Newburgh voters elect on November 8th, we will all need to come together and support the “winners” and create the Newburgh we all wish to see.
A positive step in creating the “village” is to approve the recommendations of the 2011 City Charter Commission which are:
a) slightly larger (7) Council, with the Mayor and two Council members elected citywide and four Council members elected from wards. The creation of wards will improve the link between residents and representatives while still preserving a needed citywide perspective.
b) create provisions regarding the appointment and removal of the City Manager including having minimum qualifications for the manager.
So on November 8th, vote YES on Proposition #1 and Proposition #2. It will take a village to bring our great City back and every village member needs to be represented and feel that he or she has a voice in the formal governance structure.
